With our hugely popular Garden Route Cycle Tour selling out in record time, we have released a second departure for cycling enthusiasts who want to cycle from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town in the run up to the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday 10th March 2024.

 

This fantastic 16-night trip includes five free days in Cape Town for you to explore the many sightseeing activities on offer in South Africa’s Mother City, such as Table Mountain, Robben Island, and the Western Cape Winelands. ARRIVE PORT ELIZABETH - TRAINING RIDE – BRIEFING - GROUP DINNER

Upon arrival in Port Elizabeth, please collect your luggage and proceed to the main exit where your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel in Summerstrand. Recommended arrival time before midday. After building your bikes, you will take a short warm-up ride of around 50km, before regrouping for a tour briefing and dinner.

25. FEBRUARY 2024

PORT ELIZABETH TO JEFFREY’S BAY: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 115KM / 71 MILES

After an early breakfast and hotel check-out, we will load our luggage onto the support vehicle before setting off from the hotel. We’ll ride next to the beach and the rocky coastline before heading inland where the terrain will transform from flat roads to rolling hills.  We will continue through small villages and farmland until we reach the small town of Jeffrey’s Bay (a mecca for surfers), where we will settle for the night.

26. FEBRUARY 2024

JEFFREY’S BAY TO NATURES VALLEY: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 110KM / 68 MILES

After transferring out to Humansdorp, today’s cycle ride starts on easy terrain as we head out of town and into the rich green countryside that will lead us to the Tsitsikamma Mountains. From here, our route remains relatively flat, but there are a few climbs to test our legs as we make our way through the lush farmland towards Nature’s Valley. Here, we’ll have time to dip our toes in the ocean before we will load the bikes and take a short transfer to our hotel in The Crags.

27. FEBRUARY 2024

THE CRAGS TO BRENTON-ON-SEA: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 85KM / 52 MILES

After our morning routine of breakfast, hotel check out, and loading the support vehicle with our luggage, we will leave The Crags behind and make our way to the Knysna Heads, where we will break for lunch at this spectacular viewpoint. Afterwards, we’ll continue to Brenton-on-Sea where we will spend the night.

28. FEBRUARY 2024

GEORGE TO OUDTSHOORN: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 100KM/62 MILES

To cover as much ground as possible today, our day will start with a +/- 1-hour transfer from Brenton-on-Sea to George, where we will start cycling along the coastal road towards Mossel Bay. At Hartenbos, we’ll turn inland as we make our way up and over the Robinson Pass to the Ostrich Capital of the world – Oudtshoorn. Today is a demanding day with plenty of climbing.

29. FEBRUARY 2024

CALITZDORP TO BARRYDALE: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 115KM / 70 MILES

After breakfast today, we will depart Oudtshoorn and transfer 45-minutes to Calitzdorp where we will continue with our ‘mountain stage’ as we cycle up and over the Huisrivier Pass direction Barrydale. In Barrydale, we will load the bikes onto the trailer and transfer approximately 50-minutes to our hotel in Robertson for the evening.

ROBERTSON TO FRANSCHHOEK: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 116KM / 70 MILES

Will we continue our journey today from Robertson to the picturesque town of Franschhoek in the Western Cape Winelands. Our journey will take us over the iconic Franschhoek Pass and down into town where we’ll stop for refreshments before loading the bikes and transferring to Stellenbosch for dinner and overnight.

02. MARCH  2024

MUIZENBERG TO CAPE TOWN: CYCLING DISTANCE APPROXIMATELY 85KM / 52 MILES

After breakfast today, we will load our luggage and bikes onto the trailer and transfer approximately 30 minutes to the seaside resort of Muizenberg, where we’ll ride along the iconic Cape Peninsula and much of the Cape Town Cycle Tour route all the way to our hotel in Cape Town.

GUIDED RIDE: APPROXIMATELY 50KM / 30 MILES

At 08h30, you will cycle part of the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour Route in reverse, departing directly from the hotel. You will cycle through Camps Bay and Hout Bay to Noordhoek for a coffee shop break, before heading back along the same route, taking in both Chapman’s Peak and Suikerbossie – your two biggest challenges on race day.

CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR REGISTRATION & EXPO 

At 14h00, we will head to the Cape Town Cycle Tour Registration and EXPO to collect our race packs. A complimentary one-way transfer is provided. After collecting your race packs, the rest of the day is at leisure for you to shop the expo and make your own way back to the hotel.

RACE DAY BRIEFING

Today you have a day at leisure to soak up the electric atmosphere of Cape Town during the cycle tour weekend. At 18h00, we will regroup for our race day briefing; an informal event where you can enjoy some complimentary drinks, ask any last-minute questions about race day, and meet other Equatours guests.

10. MARCH 2024

CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR 2024: APPROXIMATELY 109KM / 68 MILES

Today is the day you have been waiting for! After an early breakfast, you will cycle the short ride to the start line in the city centre to join your seeded group. Once you have crossed the finish line and collected your medal, you can either head straight back to the hotel or meet Team Equatours at the hospitality area for a group celebration.

At 18h00, we’ll regroup in the hotel reception and transfer to a local restaurant for our Cape Town Cycle Tour After Party and celebration.

DEPARTURE

After breakfast, it’s time to pack your bike and prepare for your journey home. Your driver will collect you at the hotel reception and transfer you to the airport for your return flight. End of services.
