Detailed Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrive La Paz

After collecting your luggage and clearing immigration, you will self-transfer to your hotel in La Paz.

Overnight: 4* City Hotel

 

Day 2: La Paz

After breakfast, your driver will collect you from the hotel for your full day tour to Chacaltaya and Valle de la Luna. A great acclimatization trip for those who intend to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, you will begin your journey with a drive through La Paz and up to El Alto, where you will head off into the altiplano towards the mountain range surrounding the city.  At some 5,400 metres above sea-level, Chacaltaya was once the highest ski resort in the world, and on this exciting tour, you will have the opportunity to climb 300 metres to the very top, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the city.

 

From here, you will drive back down to La Paz and on to the Valley of the Moon, where you will take a 30-minute guided tour though the magical site of eroded rocks and pinnacles, which create a moon like landscape. 

Your tour will end with a drop off at your hotel at around 17:00.

Day 3: La Paz – Uyuni

Self-Transfer back to La Paz Airport for your onward flight to Uyuni.  The flight takes approximately 1 hour, and your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel on the banks of Bolivia’s most impressive Salt Lake. You will have the afternoon at leisure to explore the neighbouring village of Colchani, before enjoying dinner at the hotel.

At 21:00, you will set off on your Star Gazing Tour, where you can view one of the purest skies in the world. A great trip for photography enthusiasts, it lasts for approximately 1 hour, and offers amazing vistas of the hotel lit up under the night sky.

Day 4: Salar de Uyuni

After breakfast, you will head off on your full day tour into Salar de Uyuni. Your trip will start at a local site where salt is processed using traditional techniques for national distribution. You will then begin your drive across the world’s largest Salt Lake, stopping at points of interest along the way.

 

From here, you will continue to Incahuasi Island, home of the Giant Cactus and petrified coral, where you will have a walk around the island and enjoy your Box lunch while enjoying the spectacular views. Here you’ll have the chance to take those famous Salar de Uyuni perspective pictures using the white landscape as your backdrop. 

Finally, you will drive to the salt mounts, where you will have the unique opportunity to watch the sun as it sets over one of South America’s most magnificent landscapes, before returning to the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 5: Uyuni – Santa Cruz

Today you will continue your journey to Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Flying from Uyuni to Santa Cruz (via La Paz), you will self-transfer to your hotel, arriving in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the warm temperatures and the sparkling blue swimming pool of your hotel.

Day 6: Samaipata Tour

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up in a 4x4 vehicle and drive towards the archaeological site of Samaipata, stopping at Las Cuevas Waterfalls along the way.  After some time at leisure to enjoy the waterfalls and natural pools, you will continue to Samaipata, where you will have lunch in the town. After visiting the plaza and the local museum, you will continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of El Fuerte or ‘The Fort’, where you will take a tour of the ruins and carved rocks, and learn about the history of the site, including theories that it is a launch pad for UFOs!

Day 7: Departure

Enjoy breakfast before self-transferring back to the airport for your return flight home, or continuing to your next South American destination.
